Santos admits she dresses as a girl ‘for fun’ but denies being a drag queen

Embattled Rep. George Santos, RN.Y., admitted to dressing up as a woman “for fun” at a party in Brazil but denied ever pretending to be a drag queen.

Santos made the comments to reporters when he was caught at the airport on Saturday, days after he initially denied it Reports of her drag queen past “Schedulingly wrong.”

“No, I’m not a drag queen in Brazil, guys. I was young, I was having fun at a carnival. I was sued for a living,” Santos told reporters, the New York Post reported.

Santos is facing widespread calls to resign from Congress for lying about his application on the campaign trail. Santos admitted to fabricating most of his education and work history.

Pictures were released last week showing Santos dressed in drag. Santos said that between 2005 and 2008 Santos made music under the name “Gitara”.

Santos initially denied the claims outright before admitting to dressing as a woman this weekend.

“The recent frenzy from the media claiming that I am a drag queen or ‘behaved’ as a drag queen is completely false,” Santos argued on Twitter.

“The media continues to make outrageous claims about my life as I work to deliver results so that I will not be distracted or confused,” he continued.

Santos faced his first major call to resign when Nassau County GOP leaders denounced him at a Jan. 11 press conference. Nassau County is in his New York congressional district.

“Last year’s Jorge Santos campaign was a campaign of deceit, lies and fabrications,” Nassau County GOP President Joe Cairo said in a statement. “He has no place on the Nassau County Republican Committee, he should not serve in public service, he should not be an elected official. He is not welcome at GOP headquarters.”

Santos has been embroiled in numerous local, federal and international investigations into allegations of fraud and fabricating his past. During his congressional campaign, Santos falsely claimed that he graduated from college with a degree in finance and worked at Goldman Sachs and Citibank. Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly opened an investigation into Santos in late December.
